Heritage Buildings Trainee

Ø  To participate in the training plan for this trainee role
Ø  To assist the Buildings Manager
Ø  To work with and supervise buildings volunteers 
Ø  To learn and implement heritage building construction skills and the use of vernacular building materials
Ø  To participate in the management and practical application of heritage building project work
Ø  To assist with administration and routine operational tasks
Ø  To assist with historic buildings maintenance
Ø  To ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations
Ø  To assist with the operation and maintenance of traditional plant, machinery and vehicles

Farming Trainee
Job description
Heritage Farm and Site Trainee

Ø  To participate in the training plan for this trainee role
Ø  To assist the Farm and Site Manager
Ø  To learn and implement traditional farm management techniques
Ø  To assist with livestock care and management
Ø  To assist with management, administration and routine operational tasks
Ø  To assist with vehicle and machinery tasks
Ø  To assist with site maintenance
Ø  To assist with agricultural/arable tasks
Ø  To ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations
Ø  To work with and supervise farm volunteers
Ø  To lock and unlock the Museum buildings on a regular basis
Ø  To assist Front-of-House functions with support when necessary and volunteer management
Ø  To take part in the Duty Staff weekend rota (approx 2 weekend days per month in open season) and week day Duty Manager rota
Ø  To assist with any task required for the operation of the Museum when necessary
Ø  To promote the Museum to external organisations if required

Essential
  • Practical experience in buildings /farming or landscape/conservation work
  • An interest in and a passion for heritage building and conservation or traditional agriculture and farming
  • Understanding of the crucial role played by volunteers in the heritage industry

    • Lantra Awards Level 2 Certificate in Land-based Activities, Diploma(s) in Work-based Agriculture  & Animal,
    • EDEXCEL BTEC First Certificate and Diploma in Agriculture,
    • EDEXCEL BTEC Certificate Subsidiary Diploma, Diploma and Extended Diploma in Agriculture (QCF),
    • City & Guilds National Certificate and Advanced National Certificate in Agriculture,
    • Lantra Awards Level 2 Certificate in Land Based Activities,
    • Diploma(s) in Work Based Agriculture Levels 2 and 3, and Animal Care Level 1 (previous NVQ title)
    • CSCS card
    • CIOBSite Management Studies Level 4 Certificate / Diploma
    • NVQs in Building conservation, construction or site supervision

Must hold GCSE English, Maths or equivalent.

You will assist a carpenter in work, go to college to undertake a Diploma Level 2, and NVQ level 2, with possible progression on to Level 3 in both. You will be trained as a carpenter and joiner, but will also gain experience in general building, maintenance and other trades. Working hours vary, but generally will be between 8am - 4pm, Monday to Friday
